Doesn’t cost much since it would need mostly stuffs lying around the house.

I chose to do a bunker/ warehouse set bec it has been playing in my mind since I last saw a tray of springrolls from the supermarket and kinda got caught at the details underneath the tray. Theyre very industrial looking, and so as burger/ cake plastic containers I saw at the supermarket that are massive when close but still so lightweight and east to glue on on walls.

Materials

Styro sheets, I used a 2x4 feet I inch thich for flooring and 2x4 half inch thick for walls
Plastic trays from groceries, or any disposable containers at hand for as long they have those “indistrial” looking details underneath.
Old boxes from medicines, small boxesif there are any. You can just do this project with the trays alone.
Colored glossy folders. I chose yellow for this. Gives it a very GI Joe feel.
Glue Gun and Glusticks
Spray Paints, and silver acrylic paint.
Large brush.

1.I started the project by positioning all styro boards in place. On my photoshoots I always leave one side open for shoot angles and allow lighting. Most of the time, I pre planned all shots already so I adjust my diorama with it.

2.Glue on the trays and plastic container according to you licking or better if you peg a photo of the actual so you will have an idea where to place your materials.

3.Base paint everything with black spray paint. Its faster and since I leave the floor alone, once I sprayed on the paint, it will react with is and melt a bit. I like it that way since it gives the floor a worn out look.

4.Get your big brush and dry brush everything with silver acrylic paint to highlight the details of the containers. Dry brushing is simply dipping your brush on the paint, wipe off excess paint and then start brushing it on the area your painting. Tip though, for a metal sheet look, brush in one direction, where you can see lines that simulate metal sheets. Let dry.

5.Detailing. For my set, using a stencil, I cut out wordings that are usually present on bunkers, like levels, numbers… here I chose “Level 02”. Then with a cutter and ruler, I cut out strips from a colored laminated folder for extra details. Remember, it should be functional all the time, so imagine yourself inside and following the bright yellow lines to where you are going, so everything makes sense.

6.To add extra details… I use lighters with mini flashlights in them, positioned them way above my photo line so the camera wont capture them but still would have that realistic lighting conditions on such area.

7.You can add on pipes here as well… individually painted boxes that simulate cargo and put details on them. The possibilities are endless… Here is the finish piece (sorry for the phone camera pics here... but the ones below are from the actual shoot)
So hopefully this would make you dream of your next project or in some way inspire you to do a better one. Till my next entry.
Aside from doing doll couture, I have been fascinated as well with dioramas and the challenge of doing a scaled down model of sets and scenes that would compliment whatever doll couture I'm doing. This time I have finally documented a step by step how to of the recent diorama I did for the newly released Ficon doll, Lacvert. (Funny story though, the doll artists behind her, K, just shipped the doll to me and the doll got stuck at customs for almost a month, out of panic, we didn't get to talk whats the name of the doll, what set or anything, all I know that her gown and look reminded me of limestone cliffs in China, Chinese porcelain and a tranquil flowing river... so while waiting I just proceeded with doing the diorama. My only plan is just the doll should be on a bamboo raft, on water, and available light. The doll finally arrived and got to finish the shoot. When I send the photos to the artist, he was just so shocked that everything fell into place... The doll's name was Lacvert, or green lake in french... it was an organized chaos after all... anyways... going back)

Materials
4 4x2 feet inch thick styro boards
all purpose glue (lots of this stuff)
Cutters
Tissue Paper preferably plain or if textured use just spotted ones, no florals or lines
Dedicated 2 inch brushes, one for glue and one for dusting and one for painting
Watered down Beige/Tan acrylic paint at least 1:1 ratio to water
Spray Paints: Basic Blue, White, Grass Green and Black
Sand, Light Colored if possible, but regular sifted soil will do as well
Broken down old chalk pastels, or old brown eye shadow make up will do as well.
Sponge
Sifter
Glue Gun
Scaled Plastic Plants
Masking Tape
Flour (yes that's flour but we aren't making bread. LOL)
Big thick plastic bag used for gowns around 4x4 feet when cut and spread flat.
and this is the best part, old plastics, paper receipts, newspaper that you office/ kitchen collected through all these years and you have no idea what to do with them. LOLs.

1. Glue together the first 2 styro boards lengthwise creating a 4x4 feet wide sheet.

2. The other 2 sheets, cut a 2 inch boarder around both sheets, leaving one length wise side open, glue both sides together as the pic shows below, set aside. The rest of the material will be used on the next coming steps...
3. Mark the areas you wanted to raise on the bigger board using a felt tip marker or pencil and using the spare styro from step 2 and other used spare styro from previous project, start stacking up the boards according to your liking. Glue them permanently using a glue gun. When you are pleased with the height and proportions, start cutting off edges around and in between the sheets, making a more natural sloping look. The key here is to be inspired with nature, so no harsh lines and everything seems to be random, with notes on natural erosion and gravity.
5. Once satisfied with your levels and height, add one part water to one part glue and mix well, using a brush, apply the mixture to the surface one area at a time. Apply tissue paper and using the same brush, brush and press the tissue to the structure carefully, checking creases along the way making sure they look natural, do this process all over and repeat if necessary specially for areas that are loose, like atop a plastic bag filled area. Let it dry, overnight if possible.
6. Sanding. Once the whole structure is dry to the touch we proceed with sanding. With this project though, before sanding I spray painted it with a creamish paint first to cover all the colored plastics that are seen through the tissue, double seal it if you want to make it water proof, but you can skip this step all together and proceed with sanding. Prepare your 1 part water to 2 parts glue mixture Apply it using a brush, one area at a time. let the glue seep trough crevices. Dust your sand all over the area using a sifter. Light tapping is best. For this particular project, I also used this cut plastic glitter that I put sparingly all around the structure, creating more texture.
7. Once dried completely its time to apply more dimension to the lime stone wall. Spray paint areas with leaf green on some areas and black and brown on shadows and anywhere you would think dirt would accumulate. This step ensures of a weathered look. Once Dried apply your watered down beige acrylic paint on raised areas and follow it up with dabbing using a sponge. This weathers the rocks even further and this is also a chance to come back on areas that seemed too dark for you liking.
8. Dusting. While the paint is still wet, dust the whole structure with a thin layer of flour using your sifter, let it sit for a while and let the flour suck in the moisture from the paint. once dried, dust it all off. This ensures your rock face will look matte on photos. Ground up old brown chalk pastels, make it lighter using yellow and beiges until you achieve the color of dirt, or simply use old brown eye shadow. The structure should be upright now, so you could have a sense where dust and dirt would settle on a natural setting... Dust the areas that needs to have that detail. Seal it with a matte finish clear spray paint or dull laquer.
9. Plants. You gotta have plants. for this project I hot glued on these plastic plants and moss on the areas near the base, since the water is there and back to the areas that showed some green. Just remember, do it like mother nature and stray away from a too manicured look. You can also add twigs here, and even real rocks if you have a wider base.
10. The Lake/River. The pool is fairly simple to do and you could finish this project in just 20 minutes. Get the other styro frame you did on step 2 and spread the plastic cover across it, making sure you're filling up the depression inside. Tape the corners and edges properly in place. Long strips preferably stretching the tape from the plastic edge to the back. check for holes right now. Spray paint it first with blue all over then follow it up with green on areas, use white even lesser. Spray black on the edges specially the area below the cliff face and the middle. Let dry.
The Raft: Basically I just woven bamboo sticks into rows until the desired width of the raft. Tricky though is how to make it float. Actually it doesn't. I made a base using a stiff black plastic folder and created "L" pegs below it. The pegs height should be water level's depth minus around 1/4th of an inch so it will sink a bit.
Tip. Make sure though the pool should fit your widest usable table and make sure that the area you're going to shoot at is level. Checking this ensures a level water line once the pool is filled. I prefer shooting this outside with the available light so everything will look as natural as possible- Early morning like 7-10 am for a cooler blue hued light, or 3-6pm for a warmer amber toned light. Plan ahead and orient the diorama to the desired position in reference to the light. Remember its not as if if your going to this set religiously, you can just move it in a whim.

This Season I'm inspired to do bridal gowns mainly because it has been my cup of tea in terms of my day job as a couture finisher. I love the challenge of translating the looks that are inside my head in doll scale and bringing them all to you. The brides I have in mind encompass almost all genre... from classic bride in white to the avante garde that dwells on structure, volume and print. All of the looks in the collection include their corresponding wig/ headpieces.
Santita, the collection was inspired by my roots as a catholic. Robes of icons at the cathedral dressed in embellished lame, gold embroidery, intricate hand crafted halos... all of this melded together with my take on doll couture, resulted into this collection. I divided the collection into three parts, Sculpture, Drape and Aura. Sculpture, the first three looks is all about putting dimension on fabrics, volume, edges, while evoking a feel of grace. Second is Drape. Drape is all about chiffon and how it moves around the body. I chose prints to have that lavish feel all over it and third is Aura which as it's meant, Gold, the metal of choice for opulence and royalty.

This is an idea that has been lurking in my mind ever since I started doing doll fashion, and it manifested in a couple of looks I did along the way. Giant halo like headpieces, embossed embroidery and opulent beadwork and then D&G released a collection that was based on Byzantine religious iconography and everything in between. My jaw dropped in amazement but that the same time, there goes the idea that I really wanted to do. But then again, I cant help but to do what I believe a must, and its close to my heart as a Filipino since I grew up with these details at vantage point. Santita is based on a Filipino's close attachment to his religion. As the only predominantly Catholic country in Asia, and with more than 3 centuries of Spanish rule, we were affixed to embrace the religion every step of the way. With it, every day, we get to see the religious images dressed up in gold embroidery, European style cathedrals, hammered metal halos encrusted with gems. Easily as an artist, you cant help but to be influenced by everything around.

I thought also, that this collection is best to do this season because coincidentally my local toy group, Pampanga Toy Collectors Club will be hosting its first large scale toy festival and exhibit, and as the curator for the doll exhibit area, I grabbed the moment as a chance to show my work in person to my folks here... in the best possible way.
Santita is all about shapes, prints and embellishments. I thought that in these three words I could ground the idea in one path and not all over the place. Looks that are symbolical but not replicas of religious robes, more of essence and feel than being literal and closing to blasphemous. It is divided into 3 capsules that starts with obvious heavy fabric, heavy draping and embroidery part then transitioning to printed chiffon and trying to sculpt and drape it to its fullest and then ending in classic familiar silhouettes, clean line but with opulent beading and textures. I also used antique lace that were so fragile and old, they're ripping apart, and so I treated them to hold their shape and finish them off in antique gold. The styling is topped of with headpieces that pose as halos but with a twist. Faces are covered simply because (drum roll please) I have no time to repaint anymore. Haha. Sorry about that.
Im so excited to announce that the Spring Summer '14 Collection "Sheer Madness" will be out this July 19, 2014, Saturday 9:00PM, Philippine Standard Time. There will be ten looks up for silent bidding after the online presentation via my Flickr account (just click my flickr account icon on your right side) and further information regarding how to bid will be posted here on my blog also. Since we all come from different parts of the world, hence different times, there will be a 24 hour bidding time, so everyone gets a chance.

Sheer Madness came from this idea while I was competing for the Couture Doll Design Challenge, CDDC, Years back during one challenge. A famous fashion forward actress was so into herself and her fashion to the point of being admitted to a mental institution from too much fabulosity. Even in her lockdown, she imagined herself in sheer embellished straight jackets and gowns, her mind twisting and turning with the ideas of grandeur and opulence. I thought this year will be a great opportunity to do that idea and actually expand it into 10 looks. I made one single pattern for every look, but different treatments in terms of embellishments. all looks are made of layered tulle, corset back for versatile fit. Five looks are fitted on numina body, which could also fit Inamorata dolls, JS and Deva and similar size dolls, and the other five, fitted for sybs, which could also fit JS and RDG dolls. Embellishments are translation of the fashionista's crazy mind. its opulent, there's movement, intersecting, parallel lines of twinkling beads and finished off with textures of florets, tulles amd embossed fabric flowers. Instead of wigs, I opted for a lace headgear with a gag mask. The dolls are all barefoot this season though.

Hopefully ill see you all this Saturday for the show.
Siamese is a concept I've been toying around for quite some time now and it is just now that i finally made it into fruition. Twin Gowns, merging into one. Ive selected Inro and Nnaji, both Inamorata Dolls by Emilia because of their distinct curves, very apt for this shape. Siamese Includes 2 couture gowns (top and skirt) of black and Lilac, and Black and Yellow, Both are made of antique lace, hand beaded with micro sequins, corset back for flexible fit for other similar sized dolls (good fit for Numina and Deva, Can fit Jamieshow dolls, but the skirt part wont close totally but tolerable, skirt part is made of antique lace and tiered pleated trim lace on the tulle part, overlayed with black tulle with hand applied micro spangled lace ornaments in tornasol. It also include matching ornate crystal neck pieces with matching brooches and hard cap wigs made of hand combed yarn and embellished with acrylic glass like flowers and crystals. Im also including a special base for the stand when the you opt to join the 2 gowns.

Thank you once again for joining me tonight and watching the unveiling of my Fall-Winter 2013 OOAK Collection, Ethni:City.

Same drill my dollies, as I don't want to have any attention from Flickr and selling my line there, I opt to just post this info on my blog. Here is how:

1. Email me at d_jeweler@yahoo.com

2. dont forget to write the "look" that you want to place an offer on, for ill be putting them on different folders after. ex "Look 1"

3. The content of the email should include your offer, all the pieces start at 200 usd, international shipping included, and your shipping details, including a phone number.

4. Ill allow 24 hours after the show for the offers to come and email the highest offers for confirmation ( so relax, you have time to think), and thank you emails for those who didnt get the pieces.

5. Payment via Paypal only, allowing 2-3 days to settle it, and after the shipping money reflects on my bank, ill ship promptly (3-5 days)

Thank you so much guys for making this another successful collection.
goodluck,
Thank you everyone for viewing the show on Flickr and by this time i hope you have chosen the one you liked from the collection. As you know by now that the collection pieces starts at 160 USD with shipping, and you can offer me an amount higher than that. Whoever offered the highest gets the piece. Honestly im not really aiming for a high amount, i just wanted the pieces to go to the one who wants it most.

You can email me you offer, with the Look (letter) as your email title and i'll check everyone's emails after a good 24 hours, and i'll email back the winning offer ASAP after the time period. You can send your email through this address

d_jeweler@yahoo.com

Kisskiss Everyone and thank you!
